Six new Angels make their competitive debuts

15 September 2026 · 8 min read · Sue's Angels FC

Two Gameweeks into the League Eight season, six players have already made their competitive debuts for Sue’s Angels.

Four were handed their first appearances on the opening day against Three Little Birds. Two more followed a week later against Haydons Park.

None of the six had previously represented the club in a league or cup fixture. Between them, they have already contributed in defence, attack and from the bench as the Angels have opened the season with consecutive victories.

For Ade Owolana and Leon Burnett, the transition into competitive football has continued the attacking influence they demonstrated throughout pre-season, when both regularly contributed goals and assists.

Gameweek One: four debuts on opening day

Sue’s Angels began their first League Eight campaign at The Reeves Sports Club on Sunday 6 September.

The starting line-up featured three competitive debutants, with a fourth later introduced from the bench. All four played their part as the Angels overcame Three Little Birds 2–1 in a closely contested opening fixture.

Ade Owolana

Ade Owolana made his competitive debut on the right of the attacking midfield line.

Ade entered the season having already established himself as a consistent goalscorer and creator during pre-season. Although he did not score against Three Little Birds, he needed only one more competitive appearance to carry that form into League Eight.

Against Haydons Park, he completed a hat-trick with goals in the 12th, 38th and 92nd minutes. His performance also earned him the Player of the Match award.

With three goals from his first two league appearances, Ade is already joint-third in the early League Eight scoring standings.

His hat-trick was not an isolated breakthrough. It was the latest indication of the attacking threat he had shown throughout the summer and his ability to turn promising positions into goals.

Leon Burnett

Leon Burnett also reached the opening day following a productive pre-season in which he regularly contributed both goals and assists.

Starting up front alongside Charlie Dunkley, Leon made an immediate competitive impact by setting up Dunkley’s goal in the 2–1 victory.

His influence continued in Gameweek Two.

Leon scored his first competitive goal for the club from the penalty spot in the 29th minute before providing the pass for Ade Owolana to complete his hat-trick in stoppage time.

Two league appearances have produced one goal and two assists, giving Leon a direct involvement in three of the Angels’ opening ten goals.

Like Ade, his early competitive return represents a continuation of what he produced during pre-season. Leon has shown that he can both finish chances and create them for the players around him, adding another dimension to the Angels’ attack.

Robert Heath

Robert Heath was handed his competitive debut at right centre-back in a back four.

After helping the Angels through a demanding opening fixture against Three Little Birds, Robert retained his place for Gameweek Two and again started at right centre-back, this time in a back three, in the 8–1 victory over Haydons Park.

He is one of three debutants to have started both league matches and has quickly become part of a defensive unit adapting to the demands of the new division.

The Angels conceded once in each of those opening games, but both victories required different qualities. The first demanded concentration and resilience during a close contest, while the second required the defence to remain disciplined while the team controlled possession and committed players forward.

Liam Kirby

Liam Kirby became the fourth debutant of the opening weekend when he was introduced from the bench against Three Little Birds.

The striker entered a tight contest. The official team sheet confirms his appearance, although it does not record the exact minute of his introduction.

His debut added another attacking option to a squad that had already created competition across the forward positions during pre-season.

Gameweek Two: two more join the story

One week later, Sue’s Angels returned to The Reeves to face Haydons Park.

With the team producing a commanding attacking performance, Danny Cain and George Churchill were given their first competitive minutes for the club. Their appearances took the number of Angels debutants to six across the opening two Gameweeks.

Danny Cain

Danny Cain entered at half-time with the Angels leading 5–0.

He replaced Jimi El Bayati in the centre of the back three and played the full second half of the 8–1 victory.

There was added significance to the substitution. The match marked Jimi’s first appearance since coming out of retirement, meaning one of the leaders of last season’s title-winning squad handed over to a player taking his first competitive steps with the club.

It was a moment that connected two different stages of the Angels’ story: an established player returning to the team and a new one beginning his own journey.

Jimi’s return to the starting line-up has its own story.

George Churchill

George Churchill became the sixth competitive debutant of the season when he replaced Andy Allen at left wing-back in the 60th minute.

He entered the match three minutes after Elis Brumpton’s header had extended the lead to 6–0 and helped the Angels complete the remaining half-hour of another winning performance.

Operating at left wing-back, George added fresh energy on the outside as the Angels continued to attack without losing their defensive structure.

The early numbers underline the contribution the new group has already made.

Between them, the six debutants have scored four of the Angels’ ten League Eight goals and assisted two more. Three have started both matches, while the other three have provided additional options from the bench across attack and defence.

For Ade and Leon, those contributions have carried their productive pre-season form into the competitive campaign. Both had already demonstrated their ability to score and create for the team during the summer, and they have now translated that influence into League Eight goals and points.

The other four have added depth across the pitch. Robert has started both matches in defence, while Liam, Danny and George have each received their first competitive opportunities from the bench.

More importantly, all six have contributed to a squad that has collected maximum points from its opening two fixtures.

They have joined an established group stepping up two divisions following last season’s League Ten title and have quickly become part of the next chapter in the club’s development.

New faces, the same standards

The arrival of new players inevitably changes the shape of a squad, but the standards established during last season’s title-winning campaign remain in place.

The opening two matches have provided different tests.

Three Little Birds pushed the Angels through a close and competitive 2–1 contest. Haydons Park presented a different challenge, with Sue’s Angels required to maintain their intensity and structure during an emphatic 8–1 victory.

Across both games, the new players have been trusted to start, influence matches and help manage different situations.

Ade and Leon have delivered goals and assists. Robert has started both matches in defence. Liam, Danny and George have provided further options from the bench.

It is an encouraging beginning, but only the beginning.

First away test awaits

Gameweek Three takes the Angels away from The Reeves for the first time this season.

We travel to Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields to face Junction Elite FC Sunday 3rd Team on Sunday 20 September, with kick-off scheduled for 10:30.

It will be the first meeting between the two clubs and another new experience for a squad that continues to evolve.

Six players have begun their competitive journeys with Sue’s Angels. Two matches in, they have already helped the team reach the top of League Eight.

With the club’s first away fixture next, their stories are only just getting started.
